Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27

WELCOME TO PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Welcome to the Grace Lutheran family!  We are glad that you chose our school where your child will not only grow in their academic knowledge but also grow in their faith in Jesus.

Here are some important things that will be helpful for you to know about our classroom

ABSENCES:  If your child is absent, a homework folder can be picked up at the end of the school day.  Please assist your child in completing the worksheet(s) within two days after returning to school.  Missed work will be completed during class time if your child is absent for a short time (1-2 days).  If you plan to be gone for an extended period, please let me know in advance.  Some work may be done before your child’s absence.

BEHAVIOR:    Discipline is always done with the intention to teach.  In our classroom, I will use a color/sticker system to help children choose the appropriate behavior that is most beneficial to them and to the class as a whole.

BIRTHDAYS:  You may wish to send a special treat on your child’s birthday.  Cupcakes work well for thisJ

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT:  Thursday, August 27 from 4:30-6:30.  You may wish to bring along your child’s school supplies and drop them off in the Pre-K classroom.

BOOK ORDERS:  Each month your child will receive book orders from Scholastic Book Club.   Book orders and money should be returned to me on the due date indicated on the form.  Enclose the book order and check payable to “Scholastic Book Club” with your child’s name and my name on the outside.

BREAKFAST:  Breakfast is served every morning at 7:30 a.m.  Doors to the school will be open at 7:15 a.m.

COMMUNICATION:  Communication between home and school is very important, as we are partners in your child’s education.  Please feel free to contact me at home (293-0905) or at the school (232-7747) with any of your questions or concerns.  Sometimes it can be very busy in the morning when children are being dropped off at school.  It has been very helpful to me to have parents correspond with a written note.  Please place the note in an envelope with your child’s name on it.  You can then hand it to me personally or place it on my desk in the morning.  You may also contact me via e-mail at cworral@gracels.com or cworral@cableone.net.

EXTRA CLOTHES:  Make sure you send an extra set of clothes.  Some children may have accidents because they forget to use the bathroom.  Other children may get exceptionally dirty or wet during recess and need a change of clothing as well.

FOLDERS:  You will receive your child’s folder at home visits.  Please check the folder every evening.  There may be items that need immediate attention and need to be returned the following day.

LIBRARY BOOKS:  The children will be able to check out two library books every Friday.  Please have them return their books the following Friday so that they may be able to check out two new books.

NEWSLETTERS:  News from the school and our classroom will be sent home on Fridays.

SNACKS/SHARE TIME:  Each month your child will receive a snack/event calendar.  When it is your child’s turn to bring a snack, please have them bring an item to share with the class as well.  As a reminder to parents, a bear ice cream pail will be sent home with your student the night before they are to bring a snack with an item to share.  There are 22 children in our classroom. Please keep in mind that there are children with peanut allergies in our classroom.  Please try to send healthy snacks to the children to eat. (i.e. muffins instead of cupcakes).

SICKNESS:  Please make sure to read p. 19-21 of the school handbook regarding the procedures for when your child is sick.

VOLUNTEERS:  Helpers are always needed in the early childhood classroom.  Please check off the areas that you may be willing to help and return the volunteer sheet to me by the first week of school.

May the Lord bless and keep you!

In His service,

Mrs. Carolyn Worral
