Religion
This week’s bible lesson was about the prodigal son. This is a wonderful lesson about forgiveness and a direct correlation to the forgiveness God our Father has for us because of Jesus. Thank you for contributing to our pig slop. It leaves a lasting impression when the children can see what the son in our lesson was willing to eat.
We also played a “Pig Snorting Game” where the children took turns making pig sounds. If someone laughed, they were “out”. Last one snorting was the winnerJ
Math
We are working on simple math problems. The children are learning what the “plus” and “equal” signs mean. Many of them can already figure out the answer “in their heads” but it is good for them to be introduced to a math “sentence”.
Small Motor Skills
The children are practicing the correct way to write their names, tracing various shapes, cutting shapes for art projects (check out our bird mural in the room), and forming the chosen letter(s) for the week.
Science
This week we learned about spring and some interesting facts about birds. We learned that some birds (Royal Albatross) have a wingspan of 11 feet 6 inches! Pre-K also learned about some more common birds like robins and crows.
Phonics
This week we focused on letters E and F. The children are making alphabet books and enjoyed gluing items that started with E and F on their pages.
Art
In addition to our alphabet books, the children also made a pig picture today with “mud” (brown paint)
Centers
This week several fun activities were set up in our centers.
1. Umbrella game
Children match umbrellas coded with number words with handles coded with
numerals.
2. Chicks and eggs
Chicks with analogue clocks were matched with egg digital clocks
3. Bird Mural
The children colored birds and put them on blue mural paper.

Religion-This week we learned about Jesus calming the storm.
Math-Telling time; simple addition
Phonics-Writing upper and lowercase Cc; letter Bb page in our special alphabet book
Social-We viewed the Geography displays in the gymnasium. Jake, one of the presenters shared a bit about Fiji with us.
Science-Mrs. Mitchell did an apple experiment with the children. Children were asked which apple slice they thought would turn brown first. (Each apple slice was dipped in either water, milk, or lemon juice).
We also talked about fish; what they need to live, parts of a fish, etc. (Mrs. Jahnke also talked about fish with some of our chapel buddies, the 7th and 8th graders. They actually dissected fish this week.)
National Lutheran Schools Week (NLSW)
Did you know that there are 945 LCMS elementary schools in the United States? There are also 2,300 early childhood centers that are operated by the LCMS as well? The Lutheran Church -Missouri Synod (LCMS) has always placed a high value on Christian education and continues to do so. What a joy to celebrate with all of them this week!

Pennies For Patients
*Fundraiser for National Leukemia and Lymphoma Society*
We will be conducting what we will call "Penny Wars"
1. Each class will have a jar in the gym in which they can put pennies into.
2. During the week, others can put pennies into the jars.
3. Classes can go to war by sticking silver coins into the jar of the other classes, which will subtract from the penny total in the jar.
4. We will count every day and give an update.
5. The class with the highest total or least negative total will win a Pizza Party.
6. On Wednesday, March 7, we will have "Only Paper Money Day."
A $1bill will be 100 pennies. A $5 dollar bill and $10 dollar bill will act like silver in the other classes' jars.
*Thank you in advance for raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
