Monday: This week in religion we continue to learn about Elijah. “Ralph” the raven came for a visit and told the children about how God provided food and water for Elijah. We also talked about other events in Elijah’s life including God providing food for the woman at Zarapheth and God showing his mighty power to the people who believed in false gods.
Tuesday: In Social Studies and Science, the Pre-K children are learning about the earth. They played with dirt during center time. The children have learned that God included rock with the dirt. On Wednesday, they will learn about special rocks called gemstones
Wednesday: Today the children made crowns with their “gemstones”. We enjoyed a great skit in chapel that the second graders shared with the school. Thursday: We are reviewing positional words (beside, in, on, above, and below). Peggy made a delicious Thanksgiving Feast. The children enjoyed seeing the napkin rings that they had made for the beautifully decorated tables. All classes had a part in the feast and it was well worth the effort to be able to sit together as a whole Grace family for a special meal. Friday: Today we did an experiment with cotton balls, paper towels, sand, and coal to show the children how different items are used to filter out impurities in water. Thank you all for bringing items for the food pantry. Always good to teach our children how and why we help others in need. J Looking Ahead: Thanksgiving Vacation – 11/26-27 Picture Retakes – December 2 December 10-11 – Christmas Musical December 18 – Christmas vacation begins at the end of the day January 4 – Classes resume Christmas Musical “CameLot” December 10 and 11-7 PM Pre-K will sing just before the musical begins on December 10. Thanks to the Sande’s for putting the cover together on the computer for the class. Wednesday: The Pre-K had fun flying their “kites” today. God gave us a perfect wind. Pre-K Classroom News
Teacher: Mrs. Worral cworral@gls.com Date: October 5-9, 2009
Monday: The children are working hard in art to finish our rainbow display in the hallway to remind us that God always keeps His promises.
Tuesday: The class continues to graph our fall weather during circle time in the morning. Even though we’ve had a lot of rainy days lately, the graph shows that we have had more sunny days than cloudy ones! J Pre-K also started a new graph showing the morning temperatures during this month.
Wednesday: All full of smiles today and looking mighty fine in our dressy clothes. J
The students discovered words that start with the letter Ff and made the sound for Ff. The children really liked guessing what might be in Mrs. Worral’s bag that started with the Ff sound. We began talking about Fire Safety. Needed to work hard on listening today.
Thursday: Today we started learning a song to help us remember the bible lesson about Joseph. We enjoyed making houses, animals, triangles, creatures and other things with our shape blocks for our morning work at the table. We drew pictures of fire trucks rushing to put out house fires. We had a good day listening today.
Friday: In science, we talked about what a fire needs: heat, fuel, and oxygen. We did an experiment to show that when we take these things away the fire will go out. Stop, drop, and roll works because the person rolling cuts down the oxygen the fire is getting to “stay alive”. The class continues to work on using kind words to speak with our friends.

Check it out on October 1st to see your children’s great artwork. Wednesday: Reviewing #1, #2, A-C, and introducing D. Children are beginning to recognize words for common objects in the room. (i.e. The word “flag” is on the wall by the American flag in our room) Pastor Seter came and spoke to us about our chapel project from last year called “Project 24”. Project 24 is an effort to build 24 orphanages for children in Africa. This year chapel offerings will go to The Salvation Army. Thursday: Today we talked about how we use our words to solve conflicts. We also talked about how important sharing is. Sharing is something we practice every time we go to the field for recess and have to share the hula-hoops, frisbees, and balls. We also watch a 15-minute movie about sharing. Friday: We have enjoyed singing our Noah’s Ark songs. One is to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”. Tuesday: In health, we talked about poisonous plants and other poisons that we need to stay away from.
Wednesday: Thanks for coming to VIP day! The children enjoyed having mom, dad, grandma, and/or grandpa visit us for the morning. Some children thought their visitors would get to stay all day so there were a few tears when our special friends had to depart

The book Bear, Your Manners are Showing was read to remember to use the words “please”, “thank-you”, “I’m sorry”, and “excuse me”. Chicken Rice Casserole was not a favorite for Pre-K children today at lunch. May want to send a cold lunch next time it’s on the menu. Thursday: Oh, my! What a very warm day! The other cubby may be used for extra clothes and tennis shoes. WELCOME TO PRE-KINDERGARTEN
Welcome to the Grace Lutheran family! We are glad that you chose our school where your child will not only grow in their academic knowledge but also grow in their faith in Jesus.
Here are some important things that will be helpful for you to know about our classroom
ABSENCES: If your child is absent, a homework folder can be picked up at the end of the school day. Please assist your child in completing the worksheet(s) within two days after returning to school. Missed work will be completed during class time if your child is absent for a short time (1-2 days). If you plan to be gone for an extended period, please let me know in advance. Some work may be done before your child’s absence.
BEHAVIOR: Discipline is always done with the intention to teach. In our classroom, I will use a color/sticker system to help children choose the appropriate behavior that is most beneficial to them and to the class as a whole.
BIRTHDAYS: You may wish to send a special treat on your child’s birthday. Cupcakes work well for thisJ
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: Thursday, August 27 from 4:30-6:30. You may wish to bring along your child’s school supplies and drop them off in the Pre-K classroom.
BOOK ORDERS: Each month your child will receive book orders from Scholastic Book Club. Book orders and money should be returned to me on the due date indicated on the form. Enclose the book order and check payable to “Scholastic Book Club” with your child’s name and my name on the outside.
BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served every morning at 7:30 a.m. Doors to the school will be open at 7:15 a.m.
COMMUNICATION: Communication between home and school is very important, as we are partners in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact me at home (293-0905) or at the school (232-7747) with any of your questions or concerns. Sometimes it can be very busy in the morning when children are being dropped off at school. It has been very helpful to me to have parents correspond with a written note. Please place the note in an envelope with your child’s name on it. You can then hand it to me personally or place it on my desk in the morning. You may also contact me via e-mail at cworral@gracels.com or cworral@cableone.net.
EXTRA CLOTHES: Make sure you send an extra set of clothes. Some children may have accidents because they forget to use the bathroom. Other children may get exceptionally dirty or wet during recess and need a change of clothing as well.
FOLDERS: You will receive your child’s folder at home visits. Please check the folder every evening. There may be items that need immediate attention and need to be returned the following day.
LIBRARY BOOKS: The children will be able to check out two library books every Friday. Please have them return their books the following Friday so that they may be able to check out two new books.
NEWSLETTERS: News from the school and our classroom will be sent home on Fridays.
SNACKS/SHARE TIME: Each month your child will receive a snack/event calendar. When it is your child’s turn to bring a snack, please have them bring an item to share with the class as well. As a reminder to parents, a bear ice cream pail will be sent home with your student the night before they are to bring a snack with an item to share. There are 22 children in our classroom. Please keep in mind that there are children with peanut allergies in our classroom. Please try to send healthy snacks to the children to eat. (i.e. muffins instead of cupcakes).
SICKNESS: Please make sure to read p. 19-21 of the school handbook regarding the procedures for when your child is sick.
VOLUNTEERS: Helpers are always needed in the early childhood classroom. Please check off the areas that you may be willing to help and return the volunteer sheet to me by the first week of school.
May the Lord bless and keep you!
In His service,
Mrs. Carolyn Worral
